Sennar authorities ban logging, jail charcoal traders

The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry in Sudan’s Sennar State has introduced strict measures to ban logging to make charcoal in the area.

Ministerial teams have reportedly been dispatched to inspect local markets where several local charcoal producers and traders were jailed.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj, several citizens expressed discontent about those measures, saying the situation is exacerbated further due to acute shortages of cooking gas in the area. This comes after the presidency issued an order banning logging for the purpose of coal production.

On 10 November, Radio Tamazuj report a shortage of cooking gas in Sennar and restrictions on distribution of cooking gas.
