Senior rebel commander killed in Lol

The rebel group South Sudan United Front (SSUF) mourned the death of one of its senior commanders during clashes with government troops in Lol State this morning.

Sunday de John, spokesman for Paul Malong's SSUF rebel group, told Radio Tamazuj that Brigadier General Manut Yel Lual was killed while fighting government troops in Wanh-achien of Lol State.

“Manut was killed at the bridge of Wanh-Achien area together with three of his bodyguards at around 2 am. He was the deputy commander of our forces in the area,” he said.

Sunday pointed out that their commander was killed after they were ambushed by government troops in the area of Wanh-achien. “The commander of the government forces who laid the ambush was also killed by our forces,” he said.

Sunday pointed out that the fighting lasted for more than two hours.

“We want to tell the general public that the government forces have been ambushing our forces in order to disrupt the ongoing peace process,” he said.

Lul Ruai Koang, SSPDF’s spokesperson, said he had not received any report about clashes between government troops and rebel forces loyal to General Paul Malong in Wanh-Achien area.

Malong's rebel group is not part of the revitalized peace deal.
