South Sudan government’s present policies to bring stability to the country are not effective, a senior official serving in the unity government in Juba said on Sunday.
Kornelio Kon Ngu, Deputy Minister of Agriculture, told Radio Tamazuj that the government has not done enough to address the ongoing conflict across the country.
The official further said the current government is not serious in finding radical solutions to address security matters in South Sudan. He noted that the cabinet had discussed the security situation last week, but couldn’t come up with a clear resolution.
Kon, who is also leader of South Sudan’s national alliance of opposition parties, pointed out that President Kiir was supposed to set up committees to visit the conflict-affected states in order to negotiate with citizens and armed oppositions for the sake of peace and stability.
Separately, Kornelio Kon said that implementation of last August’s peace accord is incomplete due to exclusion of former vice president and prominent rebel leader Riek Machar from Juba.
“The exclusion of Riek has opened the way for the government to implement the reservation points including the cantonment which was difficult to agree up before,” said Kon.
The government official pointed out that the cantonment sites declared by President Kiir caused rampant insecurity in South Sudan, while accusing the SPLM-IO faction aligned to the new First Vice President Taban Deng of being reluctant to convince all opposition fighters on the ground to support peace implementation.
