Security personnel confirm Bakosoro is 'okay', still detained

Bakosoro is the elected governor of Western Equatoria State since 2010. President Salva Kiir issued a decree yesterday saying he was removed. Last night the governor was arrested without warrant or charge and taken to an undisclosed location.

Speaking on Monday afternoon, Angeline the wife of the Governor said that she is concerned about the whereabouts of her husband and she questioned why he was arrested.

“Yes, they came also this morning for another checking and told me that the ‘Big Man is okay,' but we need his clothes for change then I prepared it and gave to them that’s all,” she said.

She recalled the raid in which he was detained. “Yesterday we were here in our house in Gudele and around 8pm we heard about the change over the SSTV and we were too excited about the rotation and then a few hours later we heard sounds of vehicles came and asked for him,” she added.

“They called for the governor and he went then all the army people and security entered inside our house, rooms checking for guns, bags and stop us from making calls and asked my husband’s to go with them. I asked my husband where are you going, he said I don’t know but told me to stay with the kids.”
