A national security officer was killed and three others wounded in an ambush by gunmen on the-Torit-Kapoeta road in South Sudan’s Eastern Equatoria State over the weekend, a local official said.
Gebriano Peter, Agriculture Minister in the proposed Imatong State, told Radio Tamazuj that three vehicles carrying national security officers were ambushed by unknown gunmen on Sunday.
He further said one security officer was killed on the spot and three others sustained injuries. “Yes there was an ambush on vehicles of security officers, this happened at an area near the border with Kapoeta, the vehicles were coming from Torit heading to Kapoeta” said Peter.
“The security officers were graduated recently, so one officer died, and three were wounded in clashes” he added.
Peter accused a group of armed men who claim to be members of the SPLA-IO of involvement in the incident.“We do not recognise them as SPLM-IO rebels, they are just bandits, they claim to be members of the SPLA-IO, but they are criminals” he said.
