A national security officer identified as Nelson Matiang, 30, who also worked, as a motorcycle (boda-boda) operator was found dead in Torit Town in Eastern Equatoria State on Wednesday.
Authorities said his body was tied to his motorcycle from the neck, with a piece of clothing stuffed in his mouth.
Matiang is suspected to have been killed by unidentified criminals, who also escaped with his mobile telephone and an unknown amount of money.
Last month, an 18-year-old disabled man identified as Akille Michael was shot dead and his body dumped in the Kineti River in Torit Town.
Torit Mayor Mustafa Albino Zachariah told Radio Tamazuj on Wednesday evening that the security officer’s body was discovered at 5am.
He said no arrests had been made despite the heavy security patrol in town
The Mayor assured the town residents that the investigations were ongoing and that the crime perpetrators would be held accountable.
A medical officer at the Torit State Hospital, Changa Thomas Oker, confirmed that the body of deceased officer was taken to the facility for a postmortem.
He said the deceased had sustained wounds on his neck, hands and legs.
Eastern Equatoria State civil society network chairperson Charles Onen Lokwaru condemned the killing, describing it as a total violation of human rights.
He urged the government to investigate the incident that had left a widow and orphans behind.
“We condemn the assault on a national security officer even as the whereabouts of the culprits remain unknown. We send our condolences to the family of the officer, particularly the wife and the children who have been left behind as widow and orphans,” Lokwaru said.
