Security heightened ahead of St. Daniel Comboni Day in Wau

The police in the Western Bahr el Ghazal State capital, Wau, on Wednesday heavily deployed security forces in and around the town to secure the St. Daniel Comboni Feast Day which is celebrated annually on 10 October around the world.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj, the spokesperson of the police in Western Bahr el Ghazal State, Major Santino Udol, disclosed that all security procedures have been put in place for the safety of the congregations at Comboni Catholic Church and in all residential areas in Wau Town.

“We are so glad for the Comboni Day that is eventually happening on 10 October (Thursday) and the police are pleased to announce comprehensive security measures for the celebrations in the evening at the Comboni Parish to commemorate the legacy of Saint Daniel Comboni,” he said. “We are committed to ensuring the safety and security of all attendees, it is our priority to provide a safe environment for the community to celebrate this event.”

Maj. Udol appealed to all citizens to cooperate with the police during the celebrations to check crime.

“We have developed a rapid security plan that includes increasing the police presence, traffic management, and coordination with other local emergency services, other security forces, and the church,” he stated. “There is a need for people to come early so that it is easy for the security measures put in place, including checking on the scene, to move smoothly.”
