At least 10 journalists protesting at the Umma Party headquarters in Omdurman have been arrested by Sudanese security forces who have allegedly besieged the building.
The journalists, members of the Sudanese Journalists Network (SJN), were demonstrating against “censorship on newspapers and restriction of freedoms”.
The arrest of journalists follows the ongoing protests across various cities in Sudan in which citizens are denouncing the cancellation of fuel subsidies and calling for the end of the regime of President Omar Al Bashir.
A SJN member who prefers not to be identified, affirmed to Radio Tamazuj that censorship and media restriction continue in Sudan.
“The protesting journalists are demanding that the freedom of expression and of press are guaranteed according as enshrined in the constitution,” he said.
