Security forces in the areas of Mazmum and Dali in Sennar State have arrested four young activists accused of distributing publications on Tuesday. They spent almost 10 hours in detention but were later released after interrogation by the security.

The youngsters told El Midan newspaper that they were detained over distribution of a statement to the public. In their statement, they criticized the government policies in the area. They accused the local authorities of implementing agricultural projects without taking the losses of the citizens into consideration. According to the statement, the local population was forcefully relocated to very poor agricultural areas. They lost more than three million head of cattle as well.

The statement further condemned the “government’s control over the border trade, which constitutes one of the major economic activities in the area”.

The youth also deplored the overlapping of powers between the police and the Sudanese Armed Forces which, they said, is “negatively affecting the interests of the local citizens”.

The activists were identified as Abdel Azeem Ahmed, Zein El Abdeen, Jamaa, and Yusif Ahmed El Hajana.

They noted that they have been summoned again by the security for further investigation. A source hinted to Radio Tamazuj that they will be transported to Sinja town today.
