South Sudanese security agents found an NGO vehicle carrying arms along the Kapeota-Juba road last week in Eastern Equatoria state, a local official said.

State Minister for Information Mark Akio told Radio Tamazuj that the security personnel seized two AK-47 rifles in a vehicle belonging to Caritas Switzerland at a checkpoint on 13 April.

Akio said the driver and two aid workers on board were immediately arrested. However, he said the driver was the one responsible for the seized guns.

“The two aid workers had nothing to do with the probem, but the driver is the one responsible for carrying guns in the vehicle,” Akio said.

The state minister stressed that the criminal will be brought to book.
