Security agents abduct student near UN 'protection' site in Juba

South Sudan security agents arrested a student at Checkpoint near the United Nations 'Protection of Civilians' site in Jebel area of Juba Wedenesday, the young man's relatives said.

The student, identified by several fellow displaced people as David Marial, attends a high school inside PoC, where tens of thousands are seeking protection of the UN after fleeing ethnic killings of Nuer.

They added that Marial was intercepted by two security agents dressed in uniform riding a motorbike and others in a tinted vehicle when on his way from Poc 1 to PoC3 on Wednesday.

The eyewitnesses pointed out that he was picked up at gun point and his whereabouts are unknown.

For his part, George Ruai, the brother of the arrested young man, told Radio Tamazuj what is being done by local authorities in Juba toward the displaced people is dangerous.

He pointed out that the incident is not the first of its kind in Juba. Ruai called on the UN mission to intervene for Marial's release. The UN is tasked with protecting civilians in South Sudan.

Ruai expressed discontent about what happens to the displaced people, saying the government was not supposed to carry out such acts against innocent civilians after a peace agreement.
