Fresh revenge attacks among the Gok community in Cueibet County of Lakes State led to the deaths of two children last Friday, authorities say.
The children aged 8 and 9 years old from the Ayiel and Waat sections of the Gok community were killed in the Alel area and along the road to Pagor Payam.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj, the secretary-general of defunct Gok state Zeckariah Mamer Thokgor said the two children were identified as Dau Makur Dau from the Ayiel section and Machiek Anei Majuec from the Waat section.
"The first incident of killings occurred at night in Alel village where a child Dau Makur Dau was killed from Ayiel section and the other incident occurred on the main road to Pagor where a child Machiek Anei Majuec was killed in a road ambush," he said.
Mamer said the security forces are now following up the suspected criminals from both sides sections.
"The inter-communal hostilities of the Gok community doesn't require dialogue anymore. It requires the national government in Juba to intervene and remove guns from their hands forcefully. It doesn't need dialogue. There are so many talks without solutions," said secretary-general Mamer Thokgor.
The police acting commissioner of Cueibet county colonel Machar Muorwel confirmed the incident that happened in Cueibet Town.
"Children were indeed killed in Cueibet Town. Even this morning, we have another report of one body found along a riverside."
Sections of the Gok community have been entangled in revenge attacks since last year, leading to deaths and destruction of livelihoods.
