Sectional clashes leave 9 killed, 6 wounded in Yirol East County

The police in Lakes State reported that 9 people died and 6 others sustained severe gunshot injuries during a dispute over a cattle camp in Yirol East County.

Lakes State Police Spokesperson Maj. Elijah Mabor Makuach told Radio Tamazuj on Tuesday that the fighting broke out between the sections of Panawuol and Panthier of the same clan over the Aliet cattle camp in Yirol East.

“According to the report that we have received, two sections clashed over a cattle camp called Aliet cattle camp in Yirol East County and so 9 people died and 6 others sustained severe gunshot injuries,” he said. However, that is not the whole report because we suspect more people who are said to be missing might have died.”

Mabor said joint security forces comprised of the police and army have been dispatched to contain the situation and apprehend the ring leaders.

“The forces are deployed at the camp now and they are working hard to calm the situation and those involved in the clashes will be apprehended and taken to jail,” he said. “No culprit has been arrested yet but security forces are at the camp to maintain peace. Those who sustained injuries were taken to Yirol West main hospital for further medical care.”

Attempts to reach the Yirol East County commissioner for comment were futile.

Meanwhile, in another cattle-related incident in Awerial County, two soldiers, and one civilian are hospitalized in Mingkaman PHCC after sustaining injuries in Kacwong Abuk cattle camp during clashes between cattle keepers and soldiers.
