The Sudanese Communist Party (SCP) has revealed that it has signed a political agreement with Abdel Aziz al-Hilu’s Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N) and Abdel Wahid al-Nur’s Sudan Liberation Movement (SLM) for regime change in Sudan.
The party’s political secretary Mohammed al-Khatib, and political bureau members Saleh Mahmud and Amal Al-Zain, traveled to Juba and then Kauda last week before returning to Khartoum. They signed the agreement last week in Juba.
Speaking at a press conference in Khartoum on Sunday, al-Khatib said they held extensive talks about the future of a new Sudan, to which the people of Sudan aspire, indicating that they agreed to form a broad alliance that will establish an organizational structure for the alliance to achieve its goals.
Al-Khatib indicated that discussions were being held to draw up a revolutionary charter derived from the recent past.
Saleh Mahmud, a member of the SCP political bureau, directed sharp criticism at the tripartite mechanism – the UN Integrated Transition Assistance Mission in Sudan (UNITAMS), the African Union, and IGAD- demanding them to pull out of the political process in Sudan.
Following the press conference, security forces in Khartoum briefly arrested Amal Al-Zein and released her hours later.
The party members traveled from Juba to Kauda, 90 kilometers east of South Kordofan state capital Kadugli, to meet SPLM-N leaders. The South Sudanese government interrogated the group of three saying that travel was not done in coordination with the government.
After their return to Khartoum on Friday, the team was again detained by security apparatus for investigations.
