SCP deputy chairman arrested after criticizing government policy

Sudan’s Nation Security Services have arrested Khaled Omar Yusuf, deputy chairman of the opposition Sudanese Congress Party (SCP) after addressing worshipers at a mosque in Dem residential area in Khartoum city on Friday.

Chairman of the SCP party Omar al-Digair told Radio Tamazuj on Friday that his deputy was arrested by security agents after addressing people at a mosque in Dem area. He added that his colleague was arrested and taken to an unknown destination.

Omar pointed out that Khalid was detained because he criticized the recent economic measures taken by the government to control inflation during his address.

On Thursday, the Khartoum government decided to lift fuel subsidies and increased electricity price in an attempt to stop the surge in inflation and control the fall of Sudanese pound on the black market.
