Officials in Abiemnhom West County of South Sudan’s Ruweng State have suspended primary and secondary schools for one week following heavy rains in the area.
The area commissioner Michael Malek Yak told Radio Tamazuj last Thursday that heavy rains pounded the area on Wednesday and Thursday causing floods.
Yak said the schools were suspended to ensure the safety of students after the rains destroyed the area including the collapse of many buildings.
The official pointed out that the main bridge connecting the different parts of the county was swept away, many roads rendered impassable and the main market fully flooded.
