Schools cultural and sports competition begins in Wau

The Inter-Secondary Schools Cultural and Sports Competition started in Western Bahr el Ghazal state on Friday.

The program for 10 schools is organized by the civil society Youth United for Development Organization (YUDO).

YUDO Executive Director Denis Joseph told Radio Tamazuj that the event aims at showcasing talents among the students in Wau town and will contribute to the reduction of violence in the state.

“We said we want to discover talents from secondary schools and enhance a good relationship between the all schools. Our theme is, ‘Sports Unites Us”, he said.

“Idle youth could easily be lured into crime, but when we engage in sports we unite against violence,” he added.

Denis called on the state officials to support the event to help mould the youth for the future.

“My message to them is support the youth so that they change them into useful future citizens,” he added.

This is the first time that the state was organizing such event.
