The schools in Nauru County in South Sudan’s Namurunyang State are not functioning owing to security fears caused by inter-communal feuds in the area, a local official said.

Daniel Naroi, Nauru County Commissioner, told Radio Tamazuj yesterday that 12 primary schools were closed since last year due to insecurity following clashes between the Didinga and Toposa tribes over cattle in the area.

“There was insecurity in the area since last year, and all the schools were closed due to fighting between the Toposa and Didinga, so children used to run away,” said Daniel.

However, the county official claimed that the security situation returned to normal these days, saying they will reopen the schools soon.
