Maridi County in Western Equatoria State plans to reopen schools and markets after four weeks of fighting and insecurity in the area that displaced thousands of civilians to the neighboring counties.

The conflict severely affected education and business in the county after many institutions shut down.

Commissioner of Maridi County Wilson Thomas said on Friday that the situation in the county is getting calmer and that schools and markets will reopen on Monday. He is calling on everyone to resume work.

Separately, Western Equatoria Governor Joseph Bakasoro told Radio Tamazuj that the security situation is relatively stable in neighboring Mundri County but he said some soliders are still continuing to cause insecurity in the area.

He indicated that local citizens are now coming back and he called on international NGOs to provide food assistance to the conflict-affected people.
