A 13-year old school girl succumbed to injuries she sustained during a fight at Torit East Primary School on Tuesday.
According to Solomon Ongoro Atilio, a teacher at the school, the late identified as Jackline Samuel died while being rushed to Torit State Hospital.
He said the incident happened at noon.
“After the bell rung, the boy came to the girl and started joking with her. She asked him why he was joking with her and he said it was intentional. He joked with her again, this time another boy came and grabbed him. In the process, the boy beat the girl on her chin and stomach. She then collapsed and fell down unconscious,” Ongoro said.
Torit State Police Spokesperson Mathew Ochan confirmed the incident but insisted it was not intentional.
Ochan said the two families including the suspect are currently in custody at Torit Central Police for security purposes and investigations.
He called on the families to treat the matter as an accident assuring them that due process will be followed in the case.
“To the family of the late and the suspect, you need to take this as an accident. Don’t take it as if there was a problem between the two families, it is an accident. The issue is now under government control, the government will know how to handle it,” he advised.
According to Ochan, this is the first of such an incident in Torit.
