Scarcity of cooking gas in Khartoum

A shortage of cooking gas in the Sudanese capital Khartoum entered its sixth day today Saturday.

A shortage of cooking gas in the Sudanese capital Khartoum entered its sixth day today Saturday.

Cooking gas agent Al Samoal Fahmi said in press statement that new shipments of gas have not arrived since last week, prompting gas dealers to close their shops.

He said there were about 10 authorized sellers of cooking gas in Burri area, but they don’t have any stock.

Al Samoal said prices have risen, with a 12.5 kilo gas cylinder now costing 50 SDG. A 120 kilo canister increased in price from 65 SDG to 120 SDG, he said.
The authorized dealer attributed the problem to distribution of large quantities of cooking gas to neighbouring states.

In late January, citizens in Khartoum also complained about shortage of cooking gas.

A citizen at Kalakla area previously told Radio Tamazuj: “citizens were lining up at the main warehouse of cooking gas in order get a cylinder of cooking gas. Some people spend almost three days without getting anything.”
