Saudi Arabia donates food to Bahr el-Ghazal states

The King of Saudi Arabia has donated an assortment of food items to the Bahr el-Ghazal states.

The consignment, delivered through the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management on Thursday, is meant for Warrap, Lakes and Northern and Western Bahr el-Ghazal states.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Friday in Wau, the Western Bahr el-Ghazal State Relief and Rehabilitation Commission Chairperson, Barsham Musa Ayaka, said the aid would be distributed to the vulnerable people, including the returnees, the refugees from Sudan and those affected by floods.

The aid received in Wau included 6,000 50kg maize flour and 6,000 packages of other different food commodities.

Ayaka said that the items arrived in Wau with the distribution directive from the National RRC office in Juba.

“The food that arrived in Wau from Saudi via Juba is for four states that make up the greater Bahr el-Ghazal region. The beneficiaries are Lakes, Western Bahr el-Ghazal, Warrap and Northern Bahr el-Ghazal and the quantity is 6,000 bags maize flour and 6,000 different types of food commodities,” said Ayaka.

“The distribution plan reached at the Juba RRC headquarters is that Western Bahr el-Ghazal is allocated 1,300 bags of maize flour and 1,300 packages of assorted food items, Warrap is 1,500 bags of maize flour and 1,500 packages of multiple commodities, Lakes is allocated 1,300 maize flour plus 1,300 assorted food items and Northern Bahr el-Ghazal is given 1,300 bags of maize flour and the same packages,” he said.

Ayaka said the distribution also gave the states’ Islamic councils 300 bags of maize flour and 300 packages of assorted food items, while the office of the four governors were each given 50 bags of maize flour and four the RRC offices, 25 bags each plus their packages. He explained that the food items were vital for the venerable people, but would not be enough, and hoped that Saudi Arabia would provide more in future.
