Local authorities in Khartoum State have stopped stranded South Sudanese nationals from erecting temporary shelters west of Omdurman town, a chief said.
Malik Malek, a chief at a refugee camp in Omdurman, told Radio Tamazuj that the local authorities said they intend to transport them to an area north of Omdurman, while they reject this decision.
The camp leader further said they appealed to the authorities to revoke the decision, pointing out that their children are already enrolled schools and other learning institutions in the area.
Malik said they urged the Sudanese authorities to allow them to stay until they are transported to South Sudan when the security situation returns to normal.
Separately, Al Nas Center for Legal Aid in Khartoum organized workshops for a number of refugee camp leaders in Khartoum and other states. Professor Rifaat Osman Makkawi, the head of the centre, told Radio Tamazuj the workshops aimed at raising legal awareness among the South Sudanese refugees so they can acquire legal documents.
Makkawi pointed out that the workshops contributed a lot in raising the legal awareness and capacity-building. The workshops that were facilitated by a number of experts trained nearly 40 refugees in different periods, according the Sudanese legal expert.
