South Sudan’s National Security Service has ordered the administration of Juba Monitor newspaper not to print any issues today and also banned the publication of a regular column written by the chief editor.
Security personnel reportedly objected to a story about Ugandan army military drills in anticipation of clashes with the rebels of Riek Machar.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj this morning, Editor-in-Chief of the Juba Monitor Alfred Taban said the national security have stopped the paper from the printing this morning. He said up to now they don’t when are they going to be allowed to resume printing.
“That is true, the security has stopped us from printing this morning, they are unhappy with us for publishing a story of Ugandan Army. We still don’t know when they are going to allow us printing the paper,” Alfred said.
Another editor at the paper also said that the NSS have also banned Alfred’s column ‘Let’s Speak out’ among other columns which are perceived as not in favor of the government.
