S Sudan security agents question editor of Al Rai

Security agents in South Sudan’s capital Juba on Friday summoned the chief editor of the suspended Al Rai Arabic newspaper Wazir Michael before questioning and then releasing him.

A group of security agents reportedly attempted to break into his house at Hai Thoura in order to arrest him.

Reports indicated that officers of the National Security Service met Michael at around 10:00 a.m., confiscated his identity card and ordered him to report to security headquarters.

Wazir said he had to report to their offices on Friday morning. “They were trying to detain me, in front of my house, confiscated my ID and ordered me to report immediately to their office,” Wazir was quoted saying.

“I went to the headquarters of the National Security Services at Jebel where I was interrogated from 10:00 am until 11:00,” he added.
