S. Sudan’s minority leader endorses Addis agreement

The leader of minority in South Sudan’s National Legislative Assembly Onyoti Adigo has called on both leaders President Salva Kiir and his former Vice President Riek Machar to commit themselves to implement the peace agreement signed last Friday in Addis Ababa.

The leader of minority in South Sudan’s National Legislative Assembly Onyoti Adigo has called on both leaders President Salva Kiir and his former Vice President Riek Machar to commit themselves to implement the peace agreement signed last Friday in Addis Ababa.

In an interview with Radio Tamazuj yesterday, the opposition leader stated the agreement needs political will from the two leaders, saying the peace deal was happily welcomed by the people of South Sudan despite renewed accusations of violations of the deal within two days of its signing.

However, Onyoto questioned the political will of the rebel leader, Dr. Riek Machar, after president Kiir’s remarks on Sunday upon his return to Juba, saying the leader had been reluctant to sign.

He further contended that the agreement was reached as a result of pressure from the international community, rather than willingness of the two parties themselves, which resulted in the breach of the agreement by the two sides in Unity and Upper Nile states.

In remarks on Radio Tamazuj, the politician called for the fighting to stop so that humanitarian organizations can deliver aid to those affected by the conflict.

Adigo emphasized the need for implementation of agreement in good faith and a strong political will of both parties. He called on the two warring factions to tolerate what happened and abide by the terms of the agreement for the sake of peace and stability in South Sudan.
