Representatives of the South Sudanese media withheld endorsement of the Media Authority Act that the government says has become law following the president’s alleged signature last Tuesday.
The heads of various media houses and other media veterans plan to meet this coming week to examine and discuss the text of the new Media Authority Law if it is made available by the government.
Presidential spokesperson Ateny Wek has insisted that Salva Kiir signed the Media Authority Bill last week, but journalists were not invited to attend a signing ceremony and the government did not release the text of the bill.
Ateny has given conflicting information regarding whether the supposed law has come into force.
