South Sudan’s presidency has slammed the Khartoum government for objecting to the appointment of Taban Deng Gai as the new First Vice President of South Sudan replacing Riek Machar.

Ateny Wek Ateny, South Sudan’s presidential spokesman, told Radio Tamazuj that hostile bodies do not want the recent political changes in South Sudan. “Such statements come from people who do not want South Sudan to be in peace, and those who say that did not read the peace agreement”.

Ateny also lashed out at the international community for imposing last August’s peace deal on the two warring parties in South Sudan. “The agreement was designed from outside and it was just given to the negotiating parties in Addis Ababa during that time. So the very people who designed the agreement are now unable to interpret the provisions of the agreement correctly “he explained.

On Tuesday, Sudan’s State Minister of Foreign Affairs Obaidallah Mohamed Obaidallah said the appointment of Taban Deng Gai as the First Vice President of South Sudan is inconsistent with the peace agreement.

The Sudanese diplomat stressed that any move to corporate with a parallel body in South Sudan will be a clear violation of the signed peace agreement. “There is no way to work with a government that violates the implementation of the agreement in South Sudan, the agreement talks of the appointment of Riek Machar as the First Vice President” he was quoted as saying.
