South Sudan’s presidency says it will not allow any activities that encourage tribalism in the county, rejecting a statement issued by a group calling itself the Greater Bahr al Ghazal Youths in Wau town on Monday. The statement had called for all citizens from Equatoria region in Wau to leave the state.

Ateny Wek Ateny, South Sudan’s presidential spokesperson, told Radio Tamazuj yesterday that the presidency rejects any activities that encourage tribalism in the country. He pointed out that the government will take action against anyone involved in action that would divide the people of South Sudan.

Separately, Ateny Wek said that a committee formed to compile a report on the issue of states is still working. He added that President Kiir will soon decide either to increase or reduce the number of states as soon as he receives the report.

“The committee will soon summit its report, the report will focus on what is said by the people, so if they demanded that the number should be increased is good, and if the they demanded the reduction of the states, the President will also look at it,” said Ateny.
