S Sudan: polio vaccination campaign begins in Renk County

A campaign to vaccinate against a polio disease kicked off yesterday in Renk county in South Sudan’s Upper Nile state.

A campaign to vaccinate against a polio disease kicked off yesterday in Renk county in South Sudan’s Upper Nile state.

Chol Ayak Kom, the director of health services, told Radio Tamazuj from Renk that the vaccination process started on 5 February and will end after three days.

He said the campaign targets nearly 23,570 children up to 6 months of age in areas throughout the county including Geiger, Jalhak, Shamedi, and Checkpoint along the Upper Nile-White Nile border.

In early December, Kom announced that a campaign against six childhood disease was carried out in Renk area, but at the time said the county was deserted due to the insecurity.
