S Sudan parliament summons finance minister to explain draft budget

South Sudan’s parliament has summoned the minister of finance to detail expenditures for his proposed national budget.

South Sudan’s parliament has summoned the minister of finance to detail expenditures for his proposed national budget.

The head of the parliamentary information committee Thomas Wani Kundu said the current budget lists allocations in blocks but does not explain how the money is to be spent.

“We need it to be detailed so that we know exactly how it is going to be used,” he told Radio Miraya.

Wani said parliament also needs the minister to explain how last year’s budget was spent in order to see if the money was used properly or not.

The MP said a parliamentary debate on the budget will be postponed for about a week until the minister answers their questions.

Radio Tamazuj reported in late June that the 2015-2016 budget is 10.8 billion South Sudanese Pounds.
