South Sudan’s parliament has this Thursday entered into the second week of having no sitting amid reports of sharp divisions within the assembly.
Some parliamentarians who spoke to Radio Tamazuj said they want the agenda on economic crisis but they say top government officials who they did not name do not want the matter on the country’s economic situation discussed in the house.
The parliamentarians say most of them have objected any agenda apart from the economy.
Members only go to the house to sign, chat and go. The chairperson for information in the assembly has refused to comment on the matter.
However, an MP who emailed Radio Tamazuj said that there was a “crisis” in the assembly after a dispute about whether to create an oversight committee comprising of the speaker, chief whip, deputies and committee chairpersons.
The MP said that “the chief whip and the speaker are protecting the minister of finance and the governor of the central bank.”
