S Sudan opposition governor supports IGAD peace deal

The rebel-appointed governor of Lich (Unity) state has welcomed the peace proposal from IGAD signed by SPLA-In Opposition head Riek Machar and Former Detainees representative Pagan Amum but declined by President Salva Kiir.

The rebel-appointed governor of Lich (Unity) state has welcomed the peace proposal from IGAD signed by SPLA-In Opposition head Riek Machar and Former Detainees representative Pagan Amum but declined by President Salva Kiir.

Brig Gen Ruai Kuol Jal Thor said the people of the state welcome the signing of the deal by Machar and Amum on 17 August. He congratulated IGAD for the accomplishment.

The rebel official said he was “deeply disappointed” that President Kiir did not sign the agreement. He further accused government forces of attacking rebel positions in the state after 17 August.
