Thirty South Sudanese immigration officials have conducted trainings sponsored by the International Organization for Migration and Japanese government.

Recently, officials at South Sudan’s airport have imposed new regulations on U.N. officials entering the country and have imposed other arbitrary measures that have resulted in civilians being denied entry.

According to IOM, the training aimed to improve border control and increase South Sudan’s migration management capacity.

Officials were trained to operate the Migration Information and Data Analysis System, which is aimed to improve the country’s border management processes.

“Improving border management is particularly crucial following South Sudan’s recent entrance to the East African Community, which brings increased opportunities for trade, but also raises the risk of transnational crime,” IOM said in a press statement.
