S. Sudan government optimistic about peace by 60 day deadline

The South Sudan government delegation to the Addis Ababa peace talks is ready to negotiate with the rebels, says Minister of Information and Broadcasting Michael Makeui Luet.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj Thursday, Makuei said they are committed to reaching a lasting peace if the rebels accept to return to the negotiation table.

Makuei expressed optimism about reaching a peace settlement within the 60-day deadline set by the IGAD mediation.  That deadline expires next month.

He reiterated his government’s readiness to sit down with the rebels and any other party involved in the talks for the sake of peace.

Makuei said they have not yet received any notification from IGAD on the resumption of negotiations, which have been adjourned since the end of last month.
