South Sudan government forces captured thirteen rebel fighters during fighting around Bentiu last Friday, said Unity state security adviser John Malok.

Malok told Radio Tamazuj Tuesday that five of the captured soldiers were wounded.

“Yes we have captured some of them and they are now here with us within the division headquarter,” Malok said.

He said there are still dead bodies on the streets of Bentiu and Rubkona following clashes between the government and the rebels.

Malok claimed that they inflicted heavy losses on the opposition fighters in terms of military equipment and lives and are now in full control of the town.

However, the acting spokesman for the SPLM-In Opposition Brigadier General James Lony claimed the rebels are in full control of Bentiu and Ayod.

General promises gifts to wounded soldiers

On Tuesday, acting SPLA-Juba spokesperson Joseph Marier told Radio Tamazuj that army chief of General Staff Paul Malong Awan visited soldiers wounded in Bentiu and Ayod at the SPLA military hospital in Juba.

Marier said the general thanked all the wounded soldiers for their service and promised to bring them bulls and food.

Marier said that there were over 160 soldiers government soldiers wounded in fighting in Benitu, Ayod, and Nasser recently.

“Fighting includes death, wounded and captured soldiers,” he said. “I have no information from the ground in details but I heard the number of soldiers captured without appropriate figure.”
