S Sudan Foreign Ministry says AU report will not affect peace deal

The spokesperson for South Sudan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the report of the African Union Commission of Inquiry on South Sudan will not affect the implementation of the Compromise Peace Agreement signed between President Salva Kiir and rebel leader Riek Machar.

Mawein Makol said his government has not officially received a letter from AU regarding the report, but the government is working to implement the peace agreement.

Presidential spokesperson Ateny Wek Ateny previously said the government has read the report and will comment only on the Commission’s conclusion that there was no evidence for Kiir’s claim of a coup attempt.

In another development, Makol said the signing of the ceasefire arrangements by SPLM-In Opposition as a positive step to help implementation of the peace agreement.
