South Sudan’s senior presidential adviser Nhial Deng Nhial has blamed some leaders for mismanaging the country’s conflict resulting to crisis in the world’s youngest nation.

South Sudan’s senior presidential adviser Nhial Deng Nhial has blamed some leaders for mismanaging the country’s conflict resulting to crisis in the world’s youngest nation.

“Some people in South Sudan have decided that they would manage the conflict through military means, so that’s the root cause of the problem,” Nhial Deng Nhial said on the occasion of UN peacekeepers in Juba on Tuesday.

Nhial, who is also the government chief negotiator, called upon those who are taking up arms against the government in Juba to accept dialogue to address the root causes of the ongoing conflict.

The senior official emphasized the need for addressing the root causes of the conflict in South Sudan to achieve lasting peace.

“The international community needs to prevail upon those who are still carrying arms that the government is ready and willing to sit down and address all the problems that beset the country,” he said.

“Of course there will be different stages. At the first stage, there will be a negotiated peace settlement, but when that is done, we will engage in a permanent constitutional making process,” he added.

Nhial further said the ongoing national dialogue process is very important in the constitutional making process in South Sudan.
