South Sudan’s cabinet held its last council of ministers meeting yesterday. President Salva Kiir presided over the extraordinary meeting which was attended by all ministers and their deputies.
Speaking on Saturday after the cabinet meeting, Michael Makuei Lueth, government spokesperson, told the press that his government is optimistic that the opposition leader will come next week to allow the start implementation of the peace agreement.
“It is worth mentioning that, this may be if Riek Machar comes, then this will be the last meeting of the current cabinet and I hope that by next Friday then, we are going to have the meeting of the cabinet of transitional government of national unity,” Makuei said.
Makuei said Machar will arrive at 10 oclock Monday morning and will take the oath of office the same day then go to the tomb of the late John Garang to pay his respects.
