S. Kordofan insecurity prompts move of secondary certificate exam centre

The examinations centre in South Kordofan state’s Kurgul for those pupils currently sitting for the Sudan Secondary Certificate is reportedly being moved to the town of Dalenj because of insecurity.

Nur el-Dein Suleman, a teacher in the area, told Radio Tamazuj that the reason for the transfer was the security situation in South Kordofan and on-going conflict between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the rebel group, SPLA-North.

“We have seen situations not suitable here due to insecurity and this is why (they ) transferring the examinations centre to a safe place,” Suleman added.

Sources noted that insecurity had also prompted some pupils from the area to transfer to Dalenj already in order to study safely for their certificate.  However the teacher also speculated whether the separation of pupils from their families may have a negative impact on their performance.

The exams are reported to be underway at present and running smoothly, as pupils were provided with a small amount of financial support.
