Local authorities in Sudan’s South Darfur state said they arrested five inmates who escaped from a police station at Damso recently.
In a press statement to the Sudanese Media Centre (SMC), South Darfur Governor Adam Jar El Nabi said the five suspects were returned to the police station to proceed with their trials as normal. They had been charged with undermining public order.
Jar El Nabi accused media outlets of exaggerating the incident by reporting at least 8 suspects accused of major crimes had escaped from the prison.
The top state official claimed stability was restored after the imposition of emergency law, besides what he termed the decline of rebel activities and tribal conflicts in the state.
He added that commercial transports are now moving under full protection without any interruption, while denying any attack on a convoy by criminal groups.
