‘Ruweng youth mobilizing to attack Rubkona’-youth leader

The youth in the Ruweng Administrative Area are reportedly mobilizing to attack the Payangay cattle camp of Rubkona County in Unity State.

The mobilization is said to be taking place in the Bongki Payam, with the intention of revenging the reported killing of 14 people from the Ruweng Administrative Area during last month’s clash with Rubkona County.

Rubkona County youth chairman Gatwech Gai told Radio Tamazuj on Saturday that their counterparts from Ruweng were preparing for a raid.

“We had expected them to arrive this morning (Saturday) to attack the cattle camp, according the information we received from the Ruweng intellectuals,” he said.

Gai said that the Ruweng intellectuals were opposed to the violence, hence their providing the information about the impending attack.

For his part, the chairman of youth in Aliny County of the Ruweng Administrative Area, Emmanuel Chol Tur, denied the allegations of the impending raid.

“I can confirm this to you that there is no mobilization of the youth to attack the cattle camp in Rubkona,” he said.

“We all know that Ruweng and Rubkona are neighbouring communities. We can’t fight for nothing because we have been in same state since when we were part of Sudan,” he said.

The youth in Aliny have requested the national government to resettle the people displaced by floods from the south of Unity State since 2021, because the issue was causing problems between Ruweng and Rubkona.
