Ruweng government mourns former deputy governor

Local authorities and community leadership in Ruweng State have come together to mourn the death of deputy governor Mawien Makuac Kur, describing him as one of the “inspiring” leaders in the area.

According to an announcement by South Sudan Broadcasting Corporation (SSBC) on Saturday, Kur died in the Sudanese capital, Khartoum where he was seeking medical care. Kur died of a kidney related disease on March on 4 March.

Kur, who hailed from Awarpiny section in Abiemnhom County, was one of the commanding officers in the SPLA army until he was promoted to the rank of major general.

He had also served in various positions in both SPLA army and police service before being appointed as deputy governor of Ruweng state by former governor Mayol Kur Akuei.
