The police authorities are investigating the death of a cobbler who plied his trade in the Rumbek market near the Rumbek Girls Primary School.

The police spokesperson in the Lakes State capital Rumbek, Maj. Elijah Mabor Makuac, told Radio Tamazuj Tuesday that the deceased, Maluac Magut-thion, 55, was found dead at his place of work under a tree on Monday morning.

“A 55-year-old man identified as Maluac Magut-thon was found dead near Rumbek Girls Primary School in the Akuac residential area. This man usually mends and shines shoes under the tree near the fence of Rumbek Girls Primary School. He was found dead under the tree where he works on Monday morning,” he said. “Nobody knows what happened to him but the police intervened, went to the crime scene, and carried out an investigation but there was nothing suspicious found at the scene.”

Maj. Mabor added: “The body of the deceased was taken to Rumbek State Hospital for postmortem and it was found that he died of natural causes.”

The police mouthpiece said there was no foul play in Maluac’s death and encouraged people to go for regular medical checkups to avoid dropping dead suddenly.

“The message I you can give in such a situation is to advise people that whenever they are not feeling well, to rush to the hospital for checkup and explain their pain to medical personnel so that they are helped professionally,” he advised. “If you keep quiet, then such an issue may happen to you and you die suddenly.”
