The mayor of Rumbek municipality said he was suspended by the governor of Western Lakes State John Deng Maker on Friday, barely three weeks after his appointment.

The mayor of Rumbek municipality said he was suspended by the governor of Western Lakes State John Deng Maker on Friday, barely three weeks after his appointment.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj, Mabor Chawuop Mabor said he had received a suspension letter, but declined to give further details.

The municipal official said his suspension by the governor was an administrative issue to be handled by a committee to be established.

Mabor had served as Rumbek town clerk for several years before he was impeached by Western Lakes State assembly lawmakers in 2016.

Governor Mamer could not immediately be reached to explain the reason for Mabor’s suspension.
