The police in Rumbek Central County in Lakes State have said they are investigating the circumstances that led to a girl committing suicide over the weekend after quarreling with her elder sister who accused her of being pregnant.

The deceased has been identified as Adeng Makur Mabor. Her elder sister Anyier Makur Mabor has been detained by the police to help with investigations.

Martin Machiek, the lead police investigator in the county, told Radio Tamazuj Monday that the deceased took her life on Saturday in the Makuriric residential area in Rumbek town.

“The police have arrested the elder sister of the deceased called Anyier and the investigation is going on over the quarrel that led to the suicide,” he said. “The details of what caused her to commit suicide are with the police investigator who went to the scene of the suicide in Makuriric.”

A resident of the Makuriric neighborhood, Meen Makur, confirmed the incident and said the deceased was a student.

“This girl (Adeng) who committed suicide was a student. She quarreled with her elder sister on issues of not being back home on time,” Makur said. “Following the accusations, she decided to commit suicide.”
