Rumbek East acting county commissioner Mawet Manuer said Thursday an estimated 1000 houses were destroyed by rains in South Sudan’s Lakes state.
Mawet told Radio Tamazuj the damage is not fully assessed but other properties were affected too.
The official further said hundreds of the affected citizens moved to high ground and face dire humanitarian conditions.
He called on humanitarian organizations to provide shelter and food rations to the affected people.
Separately, rain and flooding have affected conflict-displaced people at Rome camp in Upper Nile state.
James Mansour, an official in the camp, told Radio Tamazuj Thursday the weather left many families in need of urgent aid assistance especially plastic sheets and tents.
He called on humanitarian organizations to provide tents and tarpaulins urgently before conditions deteriorate further.
