Rumbek East commissioner bans sale and consumption of alcohol

The commissioner of Rumbek East County in Lakes State, Mabor Makuac, has issued an order banning the sale of locally-made and imported alcoholic drinks in the county.

The commissioner of Rumbek East County in Lakes State, Mabor Makuac, has issued an order banning the sale of locally-made and imported alcoholic drinks in the county.

The provisional order No.2 issued on Thursday also banned the migration of cattle to the banned camp of the Manyang-rel and Aguoc areas.

The order follows directives by the area governor Rin Tueny Mabor prohibiting the consumption of toxic alcoholic beverages in Lakes State.

“I, Mabor Makuac do hereby ban all local and international wines and other toxic drinks like Ganja. Any person found selling or consuming these drinks in Rumbek East County will be dealt with without compromise,” the order seen by Radio Tamazuj partly reads.

“No cattle migration to the banned cattle camps like Manyang-rel and Aguoc as cited yesterday (Wednesday) in the governor’s speech and any person violating this order will be dealt with accordingly,” it added.

The executive chief of Maleng-Agok Payam in Rumbek East County, Majak Deng Mabok confirmed the order and said anyone found violating the order will face consequences.

He advised those brewing and selling alcohol to instead engage in agriculture.

“Brewing of alcohol is no longer a source of livelihood in the community, there is peace and security and also there is enough land for agriculture,” Chief Deng said. “So, anyone can get his local tools and cultivate in the rural areas, this is the only source of livelihood that generates income for the survival in the community instead of brewing banned alcohol.”
