A 30-year-old breastfeeding mother was killed when a passenger vehicle travelling from Akon town of Warrap State to Juba was shot at in Rumbek East County on Thursday night.
Lakes State Police Spokesperson Maj Elijah Mabor Makuac told Radio Tamazuj on Thursday that the criminals who attacked the vehicle fled.
He said the mother left behind a 9-month–old baby following the incident that occurred at Pacong at around 11:53pm.
Makuac explained that vehicle was ambushed by three unidentified men, armed with rifles.
Lakes State civil society activist Angelina Adhel said the incident was a reflection of the security situation in Rumbek East County.
She said Lakes State Governor’s priority should be the protection of lives and property.
Adhel urged the local residents to engage in productive activities to sustain their lives instead of relying on crime.
