Lakes State’s Rumbek Central County police have confirmed pursuing a young man suspected of killing his uncle over a precious bull dispute for his marriage.

The incident took place on Saturday in Mayom Payam.

Lakes State police spokesperson Maj Elijah Mabor Makuac told Radio Tamazuj that the suspect had fled after killing his 40-year-old uncle.

“I call on the community to help in tracing a suspected murderer who went missing after shooting his uncle to death at Mayom Payam, Rumbek Central County,” he said.

Makuac said reports indicated that the 30-year-old suspect had a contention over a bull to give to his in-laws as dowry.

“When the family convened a meeting on Friday, he came with a gun and started firing at people, killing his 40-year-old uncle then escaping into the bush,” he said.

“Police were still looking for him and we call on the community to help us in the hunt,” he added.

Mayom Payam Chief Guong Akoldit confirmed the incident, saying that the suspect had fled.

He urged the security forces to investigate the reasons for the killing.
